Project details

The project involves the construction of a wind farm consisting of 13 wind turbines. The town of Lucera is located in the province of Foggia, at an altitude of 250 m above sea level and thanks to favorable weather conditions this region is particularly suitable for the generation of electricity through the use of air currents.

In August 2011, construction work began and the plant was put into operation in the autumn of 2012, producing an electricity regime equal to the average consumption of 25,000 Italian families. The system also provides for an additional batch of 15 turbines (Lucera 2) the design of which is now in a phase of more detailed environmental study.

The wind turbines are 2MW power each. The energy generated is transferred through an underground cable to an electric transformer substation, which raises the voltage from 30 to 150 kV and from here, again through an underground cable, it is transferred to the TERNA 150/380 kV station located in the town of Troia (FG).
